Spike TM

Rapid prototyping that serves the work.

Rapid prototyping for product designers, makers and artists refining an idea. We print quick iterations so you can hold it in your hands before you commit, with a real person to talk it through.

Work shown at Frieze, Studio Voltaire and Nicoletti Contemporary.

How we help

It's much easier to judge scale, proportion and feel with the thing in your hands. We print fast iterations and keep the through-line from first rough model to finished piece, so each version builds on the last. And there's always a real person to talk it through with, not an upload box.

What you get

See it in hand, fast

Test scale, proportion and fit before you commit to the final piece.

A partner, not a portal

A real person to talk process and material through with.

Iterations that connect

Each version informs the next, all the way to the finished work.

Function or appearance

Working and looks-like prototypes for design and product work.

What we do

Prototyping for the creative process

A prototype is a thinking tool. We print quick iterations so you can test scale, proportion, fit and feel before committing to the final material or finish.

For designers and product work

Product designers and makers come to us for functional and appearance prototypes in hand fast, with a real person to talk process and materials through with at every step.

Toward the finished piece

Prototyping here is the start of a relationship that runs to the finished object. Each iteration feeds the next, and we hold the through-line from first model to final fabrication.

Who it's for

Prototyping suits product designers, makers and artists refining an idea toward a finished piece.

How it works

From first message to finished piece

01

Conversation

We talk through the piece, the detail and the deadline.

02

Proposal

The approach, cost and timeline, set out clearly.

03

Make

Built and finished by hand in the studio.

04

Deliver

Ready for the next stage, on time.

Questions

Good to know

What is rapid prototyping?

Quickly producing a physical version of a design so it can be evaluated and improved. In a creative studio that runs from rough concept model through maquette to a refined prototype and on to the final piece.

How is creative prototyping different from industrial prototyping?

Industrial prototyping optimises for procurement and speed alone. We prototype as part of making the work, keeping the artist's intent and finish in view at every iteration.

How fast can I get a prototype?

It depends on size and detail, but quick turnaround on iterations is the point of the service. We agree a realistic timeline once we see the model.
